I just came back from the International Law Enforcement Training Conference in Chicago. There was a vendor there displaying different kinds of pepper spray. There was a wide variety of self defense applications and methods of delivery.

Often times people in the United States are unaware of the potential exposure to dangerous environments. That point was made clear during the terrible events of Boston Marathom Bombings.
We do live in a free country and enjoy ability to go more or less anywhere. The flip side of this ability is the simple reality that it is impossible to completely secure every possible location.

This was a wide ranging question and answer program dealing with security for general public and a whole list of related subjects. I just got back from teaching my self defense training program at the International Law Enforcement Training Conference (ILEETA) in Chicago, IL. There were police officers there from all over the world. I also taught a self defense training program for Evanston, IL Police Department.

The recent stabbing attack at the college in Texas brings attention to self defense issues surrounding edged weapons.
Some form of edged weapon have been around since the stone age. One of the most known incidents involving box cuters was the events of September 11th. A box cuter is basically a small knife.
It is important to know how to defend yourself against edged weapons.
One of the training programs I do deals with that issue.

One option available for self defense use is pepper spray. The advantage of pepper spray is that it interferes with the bad guy’s vision and breathing. Therefore it gives you an opportunuty to get away.
There are several delivery systems. The most popular is a canister. You press a button and spray comes out.
